On February 13th, Loïc Rivière from TECH IN France, and Thaima Samman, founding partner of SAMMAN law firm, coordinated the discussions of the last roundtable “Pouvoirs Numériques”. This event brought together stakeholders from the public and private sectors on the topic of cybersecurity.
Participated in this 5th meeting :
Agathe Cagé, Rapporteur of the SGDSN’s white paper on cyber defense and President of Compass Label consulting agency ; Myriam Quémener, Judge and Legal Advisor on the mission to fight cyber threats led by the Ministry of Home Affairs; Eric Bothorel, Member of Parliament (LREM); Bernard Ourghanlian, CTO & CSO and Member of the executive committee of Microsoft France; and Marc Antoine, Deputy Director of theNational Institute for Higher Law Education (Institut National des Hautes Etudes de la Sécurité et de la Justice, INHESJ).
Sharing Agathe Cagé's observation that cyber threats benefit from the slightest "weak link" within organizations, stakeholders agreed on the need to develop training for both companies and individuals. Marc Antoine stressed the need to develop forums fostering reflections on digital evolution. Both Myriam Quemener and Eric Bothorel agreed on the necessity to create new legal responses to existing and upcoming cyber threats without disrupting the existing framework. The white paper on cyber defense constitutes a real progress in order to reach this objective. Bernard Ourghanlian advocated for a digital Geneva convention on the protection of civilians in cyberspace. Myriam Quémener concurred with him on the need to coordinate public and private sectors’ responses on these issues.
Agathe Cagé concluded the debate on an optimistic note by inviting us to remain confident in this new digital era, where France can turn its strengths to its advantage.
