Cabinet Samman published an opinion piece in Zepros magazine, the leading media for elected officials and civil servants in local and regional authorities, on the proposed agricultural framework law, the examination of which could resume in Parliament in the coming weeks.
- The piece looks back at the movement of anger in the farming world that swept across France and Europe at large earlier this year, in protest against issues such as the proliferation of restrictive environmental standards at European level, the multiplication of negotiations of international free-trade agreements unfavorable to EU member states, and competition from Ukraine;
- It discusses the genesis and content of the proposed agricultural framework law, which is Emmanuel Macron’s “signature law” during his second five-year term, which seeks to “restore France’s food sovereignty” while meeting the dual challenge of climate change and generational renewal, and responding to the demands of the farming community;
- It also takes delves into the first signals being sent out to the agricultural world by Michel Barnier’s new government and looks at where this bill may be headed in light of the current political situation.
It is available in French on page 28.
