A week in Washington: Don’t look for a plan B, who knows if there was ever a plan A…
Spending the week from April 7th to 11th in Washington DC meant taking part in the epochal transformation of the world order that began with Donald Trump’s return to the helm of the world’s largest powerhouse.
I had the pleasure and privilege to meet with members of Congress and their staffers, White House staffers, political and economic experts, as well as the top brass of major corporations.
What struck me most was how disconcerted and concerned many of these people were about the new U.S. policies. As for the business leaders I spoke with, barring a few institutional and private investors who are managing to get some of their points across to the new administration, most are still scrambling to find business spokespersons within the White House.
A warm thanks to the Alpine Group for having organized two days of intense discussions between participants from Europe, the Americas, and Asia to collectively understand the shifting sands of our time and identify how we can help our clients navigate them.
Thanks also to GlobalWIN for the opportunity to present a European perspective and converse about the future of the EU-U.S. relationship.
For a better grasp of what leeway and tools are available to the European Union, take a look at the analysis piece by my colleagues Anca Caruntu and Mayeul Bonsens on the “EU action plan in response to U.S. announcements and actions”.
Don’t tune out, there is a lot more to come!
